Also this book provides organization, implementation, and following up techniques that are specific to a military family move; the book provides tips and guidelines for basic home decoration on a military budget. A friend of mine has this book and at first glance I knew that I had to have a copy of mine own. Every move that we make, in support of our husband's career, is a new decorating adventure. I myself truly enjoy this - I say this as I am sitting among lots of boxes and am unpacking for the second time in a year. We have a couple of rubbermaid totes full of curtains, organizers and stuff that we may not need in one house but need in the next - so we hang on to it in anticipation of the next move. This is the 'moving bible' I grew up a military brat and now I am married to a soldier. I have moved over 17 times in my life, I thought that I had the moving thing down to a science. When I pick-up this book off my friends coffee table, I thought what can this book teach an old pro like me. Well tons, it gave me some fresh ideas and a number of new lessons on how to get organized and decorate my house on a military budget. Sandee Payne hit the nail on the head with the 3-Box Method. This is a ONE STOP resource! I suggest that you buy a copy and get one for a friend. You will not want to share your copy! I told my Family Readiness Group about it yesterday. "That Military House, Move it, Organize it, and Decorate it" by Sandee Payne just arrived in the mail yesterday and I've already finished it, very fast read for not a little book. All the reviews from Amazon.com were dead on, it's a wonderful resource! Sandee Payne herself is a military wife, married to a MAJ in the Army, she wrote the book based on her own experiences for the definite need that is out there.I've only moved a handful of times myself, and feel a little swamped with the idea of 'decorating' as my idea of it is still along the lines of college dorms due to experience, not necessarily what I WANT. She really spells out HOW to decorate, without copying a room from a magazine, and does it in such a way that you don't feel lost and back where you started. Even though I don't really consider myself unorganized, this book gives tons of tips on basics to more advanced things, gives ideas on where to go to get stuff, HOW to simplify and organize, and gives realistic time-lines (think up to a month or even longer to truly complete a room). She even mentions the whole fad that is going on right now with the DIY networks, and how they can do an entire room in 48 hours (hint: they have about 20 more people off camera, and have pre-ordered EVERYTHING).
She goes over every major room in the house, from Kitchens and Dining Rooms, to Bedrooms and Bathrooms, to an in-home Office, and Guest Rooms. She gets specific and has an entire chapter about kids rooms and how to help keep those looking nice and organized, without worrying about them growing out of the main pieces.
All in all, she does an excellent job addressing the numerous difficulties with moving in the military, all within the military budget, and the numerous differently sized houses we can live in throughout our own, or our spouse's career.
